International Women’s Day has been in place now since 1910, focusing on ensuring the continued vigilance and action required to ensure that women’s equality is gained and maintained in all aspects of life.
However, what does this mean for girls? How much are we setting up girls to be confident women of the future who have self belief and self love?
For me, International Women’s Day is also a great opportunity to let girls know that they are important, they are valued and that they do matter. Some girls are crying out for this confirmation and validation right now and we can see this in the increased number of young people who self harm, majority of whom are girls. Why wait until they become adults and wait for one day to tell them that? By that time, it really is too late.
What activity could you do on International Women’s Day at your school, college, university, children’s centre or establishment to let girls know that they are valued? The younger we introduce this concept and very important message the better.
Do your bit to ensure that the future for girls is bright, equal, safe and rewarding.
Let me know your thoughts on setting girls up to becoming the women of the future.
Happy International Women’s Day to all of Today’s Women!
